Q. With all the damage from Irma, is there a way to review a home’s insurance history before I buy it?
A. Yes, you can ask the owner to provide a CLUE report, or Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange report. It contains information about insurance claims filed on residential properties such as the date and type of loss, amount paid out, etc. To obtain a CLUE report, the owner of the property in question must order it and pay a small fee. If you’re buying a home, it may be a good idea to have your Realtor or attorney insert a clause in the your contract to obtain this report as part of your inspection contingency.
